Once again this year, Lyngby Boldklub 1921 is heavily represented at the venues hosting the Kronborg Cup. Lyngby Boldklub is fielding 18 boys’ and girls’ teams for the 2023 Kronborg Cup.
Lyngby Boldklub is a club with approximately 1,300 members in 2022—and is among the largest clubs on Zealand. The club consists of a professional division, Lyngby Boldklub A/S, and an amateur/recreational division, Lyngby Boldklub 1921. The club has won two Danish championships (1983 and 1992) and three cup titles (1984, 1985, and 1990). In youth soccer, the club is known as a true talent factory, respected throughout Denmark for its extensive work with young talent, and holds the DBU’s A+ license.
In 2015, former Kronborg Cup participant Jacob Bruun Larsen transferred from the youth division of Lyngby Boldklub to the major club Borussia Dortmund. You can read more about this in our profile in Part 1 and Part 2.
We spoke with Karsten Stiig Alnor, who serves as the sporting director at Lyngby Boldklub, about their participation in the Kronborg Cup.
Why are you participating in the Kronborg Cup again this year?
"We're participating in this awesome tournament because, after the summer break, it's a great way for our age groups to get back into the swing of things. Both socially and athletically, it gives us the chance to be fully prepared before the regular tournaments start shortly afterward."

What are your expectations for the 2023 Kronborg Cup?
"To be well-matched. To face opponents who can help our team get back into game shape after the summer break. And to experience a really well-organized tournament. We really appreciate that when we’re participating with multiple teams."
How does the Kronborg Cup stand out from other tournaments? What is the best thing about the Kronborg Cup?
"The timing is perfect for us. By then, all the players and their families are usually back from vacation. That means we can get a lot of players to participate. Plus, it’s as close as possible to the start of the tournament season. So the tournament is perfectly timed, since players (and often new coaches as well) can build strong relationships."

What is the purpose of your participation in the Kronborg Cup?
"To be strong both athletically and socially for the upcoming season."
What is your best memory from last year?
"There are many. But this is often reflected in the fact that the players frequently talk about how much they look forward to participating in the tournament again. So in that sense, there have been many individual memories that the players look back on fondly."
We at the Kronborg Cup are incredibly happy and proud that clubs such as Lyngby Boldklub and many others have made it a club tradition to participate in the Kronborg Cup year after year.
