The courts will once again be filled with blue Vikings

Again this year, Lyngby Boldklub 1921 is massively represented at the facilities during the Kronborg Cup. Lyngby Boldklub will participate with 18 boys' and girls' teams for Kronborg Cup 2023.

Lyngby Boldklub is a club with approx. 1,300 members in 2022 - and is one of the largest clubs on Zealand. The club consists of a professional department, Lyngby Boldklub A/S, and an amateur/broadside department, Lyngby Boldklub 1921. The club has won two Danish championships (1983 and 1992) and three cup titles (1984, 1985 and 1990). On the youth side, the club is known as a true talent factory, respected for the great work with talents throughout Denmark and has DBU's A+ license.

In 2015, the former Kronborg Cup participant, Jacob Bruun Larsen, switched from the youth department of Lyngby Boldklub to the big club Borussia Dortmund. You can read more about this in our portrait in part 1 and part 2.

We have spoken to Karsten Stiig Alnor, who is the Sports Manager at Lyngby Boldklub, about their participation in the Kronborg Cup.

Why are you participating in the Kronborg Cup again this year?

"We participate in this great tournament, as it is a great start for our year groups after the summer break. Socially and athletically, it gives us the opportunity to be completely ready before the regular tournaments start shortly afterwards".

What are your expectations for the Kronborg Cup 2023?

"Being matched well. Meeting opponents who can get our team match-fit again after the summer break. And then meet a really good tournament organization. We really appreciate that when we participate with many teams".

How is the Kronborg Cup different from other tournaments? What is the best thing about the Kronborg Cup?

"The timing is optimal for us. All players/families are usually back home from vacation at that time. Therefore, we can get a lot of players. And it is as close as possible to the start of the tournament. So the tournament is optimal, as players (and often also new coaches) can form good relationships".

What is the purpose of your participation in the Kronborg Cup?

"To be strong in both sporting and social terms for the coming season".

What is your best memory from last year?

"There are many. But often it is reflected in the fact that the players often talk about how they look forward to participating in the tournament again. So in that way, there have been many individual memories that the players remember positively."

With nine medals - including three of gold, three of silver and three of bronze, Lyngby Boldklub was the club that in 2022 could travel home from the Kronborg Cup with the most trophies to the club's trophy cabinet.

From Kronborg Cup's side, we are incredibly happy and proud that clubs like Lyngby Boldklub, and many others have made it a club tradition to participate in Kronborg Cup year after year.
