Kronborg Special Kids Cup is a new soccer tournament designed for children and young people with special needs and challenges.
Community is a key concept in the Kronborg Cup. With our new initiative, the Special Kids Cup, we aim to use soccer’s many opportunities for community and togetherness to promote inclusion, physical activity, and social interaction for children and young people with special needs.
The Kronborg Special Kids Cup will be an inclusive, supportive, and fun soccer tournament that focuses not only on competition and results, but also on fostering and supporting social interaction and friendships.
The tournament is for 5-player teams in the 6–12 and 13–16 age groups. The tournament will be held on the same weekend as the main tournament. Matches will be played on Saturday, August 9, on the fields at Snekkersten Sports Center, and participants can stay overnight at the local school in Snekkersten.
The initiative is supported by the Elsass Foundation and the Fog Foundation, so participants may be eligible for a reduced fee and financial assistance for transportation and lodging.
The Kronborg Cup offers a special discount on lodging at cost and covers transportation expenses (bridge and ferry tolls).
"With this tournament, we aim to set a new standard for soccer tournaments by creating a more inclusive environment that builds bridges between children with special needs and their peers through a shared activity," says Frank S. Jensen, a steering committee member who is actively involved in developing Special Olympics programs for children and adults at Snekkersten IF.
In the Kronborg Cup, a core value is that everyone have the opportunity to be part of a community and have fun. After all, this is what matters most when it comes to children’s participation in sports—more so than results.
"The Kronborg Cup will provide memorable experiences for children and young people with special needs and their families, offering them the opportunity to meet like-minded people from different clubs and regions," concludes Frank S. Jensen.
