Thousands of happy young soccer players from all over Scandinavia, a stadium packed with players and spectators, and an infectious spirit of fair play and camaraderie. The 2026 Kronborg Cup was once again a success.

This year, the Kronborg Cup 2026 attracted 450 teams—a large proportion of which were from abroad. Participants from Sweden, Norway, and Finland gave the event—one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in Denmark—a strong international flavor. No fewer than 1,100 matches were played, and nearly 5,000 goals were scored.

"We are really pleased with how this year's tournament went. Once again this year, we saw lots of happy young people, and we received a great deal of positive feedback from players, coaches, and parents alike," says Frederik Hertz, chair of the Kronborg Cup steering committee.

A Colorful Opening with Celebrations and Sing-Alongs
The Kronborg Cup officially kicked off on Friday afternoon with a festive opening event, where players and coaches from all participating nations gathered for a wide variety of activities on land and water—with and without a soccer ball. The day concluded with a colorful opening parade through the city of Helsingør, which set the tone for a weekend filled with camaraderie and sportsmanship.

“Once again this year, the opening ceremony helped create a special atmosphere in the city and among the participants. It was a fantastic experience to see so many children and young people gathered together across clubs and countries,” says Frederik Hertz.

Indispensable Volunteers and Partners
The Kronborg Cup can only take place with the help of volunteers. It takes something extraordinary to organize an event on the scale that the Kronborg Cup has grown to over the years.

Behind the Kronborg Cup are more than 800 volunteers who have helped with everything from food preparation, parking, tournament operations, communications, and officiating to logistics and cleanup. Their work has been essential to ensuring that the event ran smoothly.

"Without the volunteers, there would be no Kronborg Cup. They have put in a tremendous amount of work in both the preparation and execution, and it is thanks to them that everything runs so smoothly. At the same time, we would also like to extend a big thank you to all our important partners who help support us. A big thank you to all of them,” emphasizes Frederik Hertz.

More Than Just Soccer
Although soccer was naturally the main focus, the event also featured social activities, communal meals, and a friendly atmosphere on and around the fields in Helsingør Municipality. Many participants also took the opportunity to stay overnight at the city’s schools, the Helsingør Hostel, Feriebyen, and various hotels in the city.

With sunshine, a great atmosphere, and plenty of fast-paced soccer, the 2026 Kronborg Cup was a tournament that once again brought young people together across national borders—and highlighted the power of sports to build communities.

Looking Ahead to 2027
The organizers have already received the first inquiries about registration for next year’s event, and they make no secret of the fact that their ambitions for 2027 are at least as great.

“We’re already starting to plan next year’s tournament. We’re constantly working to make it even better. But it will always be the sense of community and the joy of these young people that drive it all,” concludes Frederik Hertz.
