BK Vestia is transforming Helsingør Ferieby into one big clubhouse

19 teams from the Vesterbro club in Copenhagen, BK Vestia, are participating in the Kronborg Cup. A total of 254 participants.

The Vestia Soccer Club was founded on May 11, 1897, in Vesterbro, Copenhagen, under the name Vesterbro KFUM. Vestia is Copenhagen’s fourth-oldest soccer club after KB, Frem, and B93 (source: vestia.dk). BK Vestia is one of Copenhagen’s largest clubs, with approximately 1,300 members. We spoke with BK Vestia’s sports director, Martin Biil, to learn more about their decision to make the Kronborg Cup a club-wide outing for the entire club.

Why are you participating in the Kronborg Cup again?

We do this because it’s an opportunity to organize a group trip for the club. It’s a tradition in our club to attend the Kronborg Cup to kick off the season. Over the years, we’ve participated with various random age groups, but now the club has tried to organize a group registration. This has given us the opportunity to hold a camp at Feriebyen, where we meet and spend time together—eating, sleeping, and socializing.

What is the goal? The social aspect or the results on the field?

It’s definitely a social outing for us. But it’s up to each class to decide what their dreams and ambitions are. From the club’s perspective, though, it’s a social outing that gives us a chance to get together. We’re a club that doesn’t have a clubhouse. We don’t have a common social gathering place. So that’s why we have to find other ways to get together across different age groups. It’s important for us to do this in our everyday lives. A trip like this is an important opportunity for that.

Why did you choose the Kronborg Cup in particular?

The timing works out well at the end of the vacation, when everyone is back before we start the season. So logistically, it’s a good fit. We could have also chosen other vacation periods with tournaments. Some age groups are participating as well, but as a club, we’ve chosen to prioritize supporting them. We also really like the tournament. There isn’t an excessive focus on winning. It suits us well to participate in a tournament with a social focus.
