19 teams from the Vesterbro club in Copenhagen, BK Vestia, participate in the Kronborg Cup. 254 participants in total.
Boldklubben Vestia was founded on May 11, 1897 in Vesterbro in Copenhagen under the name Vesterbro KFUM. Vestia is Copenhagen's 4th oldest football club after KB, Frem and B93 (source: vestia.dk). BK Vestia is one of Copenhagen's largest clubs with around 1,300 members. We spoke to BK Vestia's Sports Manager, Martin Biil, to find out more about their decision to make the Kronborg Cup a joint club trip for the entire club.
Why are you participating in the Kronborg Cup again?
We do it because it's an opportunity to do a joint trip for the club. It's a tradition in our club that we go to the Kronborg Cup to kick off the season. Over the years we have participated with different random years, but now we have tried from the club's side to organize joint registration. This has given us the opportunity to create a camp in Feriebyen. Where we meet and spend time together; eating, sleeping and socializing.
What is the goal? The social or the results on the pitch?
It's clearly a social trip for us. But then it's up to each year group what their dreams and ambitions are. But from the club's point of view, it's a social trip with the opportunity to meet. We are a club that doesn't have a clubhouse. We don't have a social meeting point. So we have to meet in other ways across years. It's important for us to do this in everyday life. A trip like this is an important opportunity.
Why did you choose Kronborg Cup?
The timing is good at the end of the holidays, when everyone is back before we start the season. So logistically it's good. We could also have chosen other vacation times with tournaments. Some year groups also participate, but as a club we have chosen to prioritize supporting them. We also like the tournament. There is not an exaggerated focus on winning. It suits us well to participate in a tournament with a social purpose.
