About Kronborg Cup

Kronborg Cup is an international football tournament for youth teams - today Zealand's biggest tournament - held every year on the last weekend of the school summer holidays.

It doesn't matter if you are a coach of a girls' or boys' team, or if you play at A, B or C level - Kronborg Cup has room for everyone. Since its inception in 2008, Kronborg Cup has been a training tournament with good sportsmanship that prepares the participating teams for the fall season.

The individual teams and age groups play on the same football pitch throughout the weekend. The many matches are played on more than 60 top-class football pitches at the eight football grounds of the Municipality of Elsinore.

Kronborg Cup is a collaboration between seven local football clubs in Helsingør Municipality:

  • Borsholm Skibstrup IF
  • Espergærde IF
  • Frem Hellebæk
  • Helsingør IF
  • Hornbæk IF
  • Snekkersten IF
  • Tikøb IF

The Kronborg Cup is run entirely by volunteers from the organizing clubs with help from the local community - in 2023 with around 800 volunteers. The profits from the Kronborg Cup go back to the youth departments of the organizing clubs behind the tournament.

From local conference to international tournament

Kronborg Cup started back in 2008, when a handful of local enthusiasts wanted to organise a local football tournament for the municipality's football clubs in preparation for the autumn season. The following year, the number of participating teams rose to 75, of which 12 teams were accommodated - since then, the development of the Kronborg Cup has only gone one way!

In 2023, 550 Danish and international teams participated and approximately 3,000 players and managers were accommodated around the city - a number that makes Kronborg Cup Elsinore Municipality's largest sporting event and Zealand's largest football tournament. In recent years, the Kronborg Cup has hosted teams from all over the world.

Over the years, Kronborg Cup has been visited by international teams from the USA, Germany, England, Sweden, Norway and Finland. In 2019, 72 teams from Scandinavia were registered.

Healthy diet

Kronborg Cup works on the concept of "Healthy Diet", which excludes sweets and fries during the tournament at the sports facilities. Instead, healthy and nutritious food and drinks will be sold.

The meals during the accommodation follow the healthy concept. All this is to create the best environment for the young footballers to perform at their best on a healthy dose of energy.

Opening event

With Kronborg Castle as the backdrop, the conference starts with a bang of an opening event at Kulturhavnen in Helsingør.

Music, entertainment and various football competitions, in collaboration with sponsors and partners, make the day an unforgettable experience.

The party ends with a grand opening march through the historic streets of Helsingør for all the participating teams from Denmark and abroad - a great experience for the participants of Kronborg Cup.
